It’s who you are not the things you have that matter

What is your most prized possession? Your car, maybe? A grand piano? A family heirloom? How would it be if you lost it? Unthinkable? Or no problem? I know it’s old hat to talk about the consumer society, but I think we sometimes lose sight of the fact that if we’re not careful it is we who are consumed. We arm ourselves with burglar alarms and insurances ’til they’re coming out of our ears so that we might have some sense of safety – lest someone or some “act of God” wrests from us that with which we have identified ourselves.
